Make a positive change in society

More than 650 million people around the world live with some form of disability. In every country and in every region of the world, people with disabilities are often marginalized from society and deprived of access to some of life's most essential experiences. They have little hope of accessing education, obtaining a job, owning their own home, starting a family and raising children, developing socially, or voting in elections. People with disabilities represent the largest and most disadvantaged minority in the world. According to the UN Handbook "From Exclusion to Equality: Towards the Full Realization of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities," the figures are alarming: 20 percent of the poorest people have a disability, 98 percent of children with disabilities in developing countries do not attend school, nearly one-third of homeless children have some form of disability, and the literacy rate for adults with disabilities is only 3 percent, and 1 percent for women with disabilities in some countries.
